MonitorMagic To get an idea of how reporting works generate a report from one of our templates. First select a computer in the "Network" tab. Now select the "Reports" tab and click on the template you want to use, right click the mouse and select "open report template". You will now see what this template looks like. Select "generate report" from the menu bar or by right clicking your mouse and you will be presented with the report. If you want to create your own Reports, check out the Reporting part of the Help. FAQ's How can I open the network browse window? To open the network browse window, right click the mouse in the gray area. Select the menu option Network - Policies to open the tabbed Network - policies window. To open a browse window only, select the option Browse network. See the section different types of windows for more information. Do I need to install the MonitorMagic service on each monitored computer? No, to monitor objects on computers you have the choice of using a local or remote MonitorMagic service. See Single versus multiple MonitorMagic services for more information. Why do I get all these application event log messages? When monitoring performance counters, events can be reported to the application log of the monitored computer. In case you configure MonitorMagic to monitor these performance counter on a regular basis, many event log message will be generated, filling up the log. The events are generated by Windows NT/2000/XP when the performance counters are monitored by the MonitorMagic service. In most cases, the events are generated because of issues that deal with the configuration of system components that are mentioned in the event message. An example of a possible event message is: "The configuration information of the performance library (DLL name) for the (service name) service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted." To prevent the generation of these events, you can specify the registry key value EventLogLevel at the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft\Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Perflib The registry key value value must be a DWORD value and can have the following values: Value Description 0 no errors are reported 1 user event log error messages (1000-1013) 359
