Students may not take more than 19 semester hours in any semester without<br />

the recommendation of their faculty advisor and the approval of the Registrar.<br />

Normally, students must have a 3.0 grade point average for two semesters<br />

preceding the semester in which they wish to take more than 19 semester hours.<br />

Students enrolled in 20 or more semester hours are charged additional tuition<br />

per credit hour (see “Tuition and Fees” section).<br />

Schedule Changes<br />

Subject to the approval of the Academic Advisor, courses may be added and/<br />

<br />

a student may drop a course and receive a grade of W. However, this policy does<br />

not apply to students enrolled in ENG 152 or ENG 172 (see “General Education<br />

Program” at the beginning of this section). A student who is withdrawn from<br />

a course during the last four weeks of the semester will receive a grade of WF,<br />

regardless of whether the withdrawal is student or faculty initiated.<br />

Class Attendance<br />

The nature of the educational process at <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong>, with emphasis on<br />

classroom teaching, seminars, and special projects, presumes a continuous<br />

close working relationship between teacher and student. Accordingly, class<br />

attendance is deemed essential to the educational process.<br />

Regular and punctual class attendance is expected of all students, and the<br />

responsibility for class attendance rests with the individual student. The student<br />

by the instructor. Failure to carry out assignments or to take examinations<br />

at designated times may result in a lower grade for the course. The student,<br />

therefore, must accept the consequences of not attending classes.<br />

Students with excessive absences will be dropped from a course. Excessive<br />

student who is absent, for any reason (excused or unexcused), more than 20% of<br />

the scheduled class meetings for the academic semester or term will not receive<br />

credit for the course. For example, in the fall and spring semesters, a student may<br />

<br />

Thursday classes and still receive credit for the class. For a class that meets once<br />

a week, a student can have no more than two absences and receive credit for<br />

<br />

classes and receive credit for the class. A student who has excessive absences<br />

will be assigned a grade of W or WF, depending upon the date at the time the<br />

20% limit is exceeded. Individual instructors and departments may establish<br />

more stringent attendance requirements for their courses. A student who is
