COMMUNICATION<br />

In a supportive workshop environment, we will examine the basics of the craft,<br />

encourage productive writing habits, and visit the territory of your imagination.<br />

Starting with a few simple ideas, each student will mold characters and spin<br />

stories for those characters, with an emphasis on learning techniques for<br />

character development, visualization, and structuring. These narrative elements<br />

COM 234 – Writing for Television (3)<br />

(equivalent to COM 315)<br />

Prerequisite: COM 213 Media Literacy. A study of the techniques, style and<br />

format of script preparation for the television media. Scripts include commercial,<br />

news documentary, and dramatic programs.<br />

COM 235 – Principles of Media Studies (3)<br />

Prerequisites: COM 208 and COM 210.<br />

Prerequisites: COM 220 and COM 230. Instruction and practice in researching<br />

and writing more complex news and feature stories and consideration of ethical<br />

guidelines. <strong>Course</strong> offers practice in information gathering, fact checking, and<br />

interviewing, as well as in column and editorial writing.<br />

COM 255- Multimedia Production for Journalists (4)<br />

(equivalent to COM 352)<br />

Prerequisites: COM 208. This course offers instruction on reporting for<br />

Internet news sites and other online media. You will learn how to use digital<br />

tools to produce slideshows. The course will also include instruction on creating
