admission requirements are not met after two semesters, students will not be<br />

allowed to enroll in Education Department courses, except to repeat a course in<br />

which a grade of D or F was earned.<br />

Native students should satisfy all criteria for admission to the Education<br />

Department by the end of their fourth semester at <strong>Flagler</strong>. Transfer students<br />

must satisfy all criteria by the end of their second semester at <strong>Flagler</strong>. Students<br />

who fail to satisfy the criteria for admission to the Education Department may<br />

be denied permission to register for education courses.<br />

Students who transfer to <strong>Flagler</strong> after two years of college often cannot<br />

complete degree requirements for majors in Education in the standard eight<br />

semesters. They should contact the Chairman of the Education Department and<br />

request an evaluation of the time necessary to complete their programs before<br />

<br />

The <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong> Teacher Education Program emphasizes learning made<br />

<br />

experiences. For this reason students electing to major in education should be aware<br />

that participation in intercollegiate team sports and other extracurricular activities<br />

may interfere with pre-service professional obligations and requirements. Students<br />

who participate in extracurricular activities, including individual and team sports,<br />

<br />

Education Department Academic Standards: To be admitted into the<br />

Education Department at <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong> and to continue taking courses that lead<br />

to a degree in one of the teacher education programs offered by the department,<br />

students are required to earn a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average by<br />

completion of their fourth semester of college, maintain it throughout their degree<br />

program, and demonstrate professional dispositions required of a teacher.<br />

Students who are majoring in any teacher education program and who fail to<br />

meet departmental admissions standards by the end of their fourth semester of<br />

college or transfer students who fail to meet departmental admissions standards<br />

<br />
