ECO 470 – Senior Seminar in Economics (3)<br />

Prerequisites: ECO 311, ECO 312, three 300/400 electives, and senior<br />

standing. Primarily for senior Economics majors, this course probes the<br />

<br />

Major research paper will be written on historical, theoretical or applied<br />

economics. Final oral presentation will be made to the economics faculty and<br />

fellow students majoring in economics.<br />

ECO 491, 492, 493 – Independent Study (1-6, 1-6, 1-6)<br />

Prerequisite: Junior standing. Study in a special area of student interest,<br />

subject to departmental approval and supervision. This course is graded on a<br />

letter grade system.<br />

Requirements for Admission to the Education Department: A student<br />

who wishes to major in any area of education must meet the following conditions for<br />

acceptance to the Education Department: (1) achieve a cumulative 2.5 grade point<br />

average by completion of the fourth semester of college and maintain it throughout<br />

the undergraduate program, (2) prior to admission, submit either an SAT combined<br />

Verbal and Math score of 1010 or higher, or an ACT composite score of 21 or higher,<br />

(3) demonstrate personality, character, and aptitude for teaching, (4) demonstrate<br />

the potential to be accepted for and to perform satisfactorily in a student teaching<br />

assignment, (5) achievement of a passing score on the General Knowledge test<br />

(FTCE). Because students are expected to demonstrate a satisfactory competence<br />

level in all education courses, no grade below C in any Education major required<br />

course is accepted; this includes ancillary courses that are required for the major,<br />

but not an Education Department offering.<br />

Applying for Admission to the Education Department: Students<br />

must apply for admission to the Education Department at the completion of 60<br />

hours, EDU 202 and EDU 321. Transfer students who have completed an A.A.<br />

<br />

Students who are not admitted to the Education Department by completion<br />

of their fourth semester of college will not be allowed to take any education<br />

courses until admission requirements are met. Transfer students are allowed
