FTW 114 – Tennis I (1)<br />

This course introduces the student to the basic fundamentals of tennis,<br />

scoring, rules, tennis terminology, etiquette, and a brief history of the game.<br />

Upon the successful completion of this course, the student should be able to<br />

attain a NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) rating of 2.5. The NTRP is the<br />

<br />

organized competition offered by the USTA. The objective of this course is for<br />

the student to gain an appreciation of tennis that will last a lifetime.<br />

FTW 115 – Tennis II (1)<br />

Prerequisite: FTW 114 or permission of instructor. This course will advance the<br />

student’s skill and knowledge of tennis. More emphasis will be on strategies and<br />

tactics for winning singles and doubles. The student should be able to attain a NTRP<br />

rating of 3.0 or higher upon the successful completion of this course. The objective of<br />

this course is to increase the student’s appreciation of tennis that will last a lifetime.<br />

FTW 207 – Principles of Wellness and Fitness (3)<br />

This academic course will combine classroom theory with practical application.<br />

<br />

Topics will include stress, nutrition, substance abuse, lifestyles, body composition,<br />

self-management, sexuality, psychological health, medical diseases, and physical<br />

<br />

FTW 307 – Advanced Concepts in Personal Training (4)<br />

Students will study materials in preparation for the National Council on<br />

Strength and Fitness (NCSF) exam. The exam is optional and will be scheduled<br />

at the end of the course by the student. The course is a rigorous examination of<br />

the concepts and knowledge necessary for working in the industry as a personal<br />

trainer. Topics will include body composition, cardio-respiratory function,<br />

adults, clinical exercise, obesity, and biomechanics. Labs will provide experiential<br />

learning of the aforementioned concepts. This course is cross-listed as SPM 307.<br />

French (FRE)<br />

FRE 101 – Elementary French I (4)<br />

<br />

grammar, and composition at the beginning college level. No prior knowledge<br />

<br />

Elementary French I Laboratory, FRE101L, is a required companion for FRE 101.
