LAS 391, 392, 393 – Independent Study (1-6, 1-6, 1-6)<br />

This course is graded on a letter grade system.<br />

LAS 422 – Readings and Research In Latin American History (3)<br />

Intensive study of selected topics in the history of Latin America. This course<br />

is cross-listed as HIS 422.<br />

LAS 440 – Selected Topics (3-6)<br />

Special studies offered when needed. Permission of instructor may be required.<br />

LAS 477 – Research Assistant (1)<br />

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. An opportunity to work under the<br />

direct supervision of department faculty who are currently conducting research.<br />

Activities may include the development of research strategies, collection of data/<br />

LAS 481, 482, 483 – Latin American Studies Internship (1-3, 1-3, 1-3)<br />

The internship may be combined with any major, including Spanish or<br />

Spanish/Latin American Studies. A 400 (3 hours) level Spanish Internship<br />

cannot take the place of a 400 level course but may substitute for one 300 level<br />

requirement for the Spanish or the Spanish/Latin American Studies major. The<br />

grades for all Spanish or Spanish/Latin American Studies Internships will be<br />

either pass or fail.<br />

LAS 491, 492, 493 – Independent Study (1-6, 1-6, 1-6)<br />

This course is graded on a letter grade system.<br />

Liberal Arts *<br />

The Liberal Arts major introduces students to the rich and challenging<br />

intellectual heritage of Western Civilization. Students are encouraged to<br />

work primarily with faculty from the Humanities Department to develop an<br />

individualized program promoting academic excellence and professional<br />

expertise in their chosen areas of study. The Liberal Arts major assists students<br />

preparing for graduate school as well as for careers in areas as diverse as<br />

education, law, business, politics, and ministry. A 400 level internship does not<br />

replace the Senior Seminar or Independent Research Project.<br />

36 credits plus two additional 100-200 level courses (six credits) taken from<br />

the current <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong> General Education List or from additional courses<br />

<br />
