PSY 461 – Individual and Group Counseling I (3)<br />

Prerequisites: PSY 101, PSY 210, and PSY 323, and permission of<br />

instructor. A survey of theories, principles, and specific techniques of<br />

counseling and psychotherapy.<br />

PSY 462 – Individual and Group Counseling II (3)<br />

An experiential<br />

course in group process.<br />

PSY 470 – Senior Seminar (3)<br />

Prerequisites: Senior standing and Psychology majors only. The Senior<br />

Seminar is the capstone course in the Psychology Department and is required<br />

of all students majoring in psychology during their senior year. The course is<br />

designed to provide students an opportunity to develop a comprehensive and<br />

integrated understanding of psychology in contemporary society. This capstone<br />

All students must complete a substantive research paper and make a formal oral<br />

research process. For purposes of faculty and peer review, each student must<br />

participate in a series of seminar meetings. This course is required in addition to<br />

the 9 hours required at the 400 level.<br />

PSY 477 – Research Assistant (1-3)<br />

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. An opportunity to work under the direct<br />

supervision of department faculty who are currently conducting research. Activities may<br />

include the development of research strategies, collection of data/observations, analysis<br />

PSY 481, 482, 483 – Psychology Internship (1-6, 1-6, 1-6)<br />

Prerequisites: Permission of instructor and a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA,<br />

major or minor, junior or senior standing. Practicum experience in psychology<br />

for students interested in pursuing counseling, testing and other human services<br />

related occupations, or graduate training in psychology or counseling. Internship<br />

hours may not be counted toward major area of concentration, or minor area of<br />

study in social sciences. This course is graded on a Pass/Fail system.<br />

PSY 491, 492, 493 – Independent Study (1-3, 1-3, 1-3)<br />

Prerequisite: Permission, minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and minimum 3.0<br />

GPA from previous semester. This course is graded on a letter grade system.<br />
