BUS 474 – Corporate Strategy (3)<br />

Prerequisite: Senior standing. A study of corporate-level strategy formulation<br />

and implementation in business corporations. Case analyses are used to make<br />

decisions about corporate strategy and industry attractiveness.<br />

BUS 481, 482, 483 – Business Internship (1-3, 1-3, 1-3)<br />

full-time semester of credits earned at <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong> prior to applying for the<br />

submission of application for internship and other internship-related forms to<br />

the Internship Coordinator for approval prior to registering for classes. Other<br />

forms which must be submitted are the Internship Election form, the Internship<br />

form, and other forms available from the Internship Coordinator. Practicum<br />

work experience that allows the student to apply theories learned in the<br />

classroom to a business experience. <strong>Course</strong> requires a paper, two evaluations by<br />

the company supervisor of the business intern, a log, completion of work of 120<br />

hours for three credits (or 80 hours for two credits, or 40 hours for one credit),<br />

and periodic meetings with the Internship Coordinator. Students can earn a<br />

maximum of six credit hours of ACC and/or BUS internship credit. A maximum<br />

of three hours of ACC or BUS internship credit may be counted as a required<br />

business elective course. For Business Administration majors or minors. These<br />

courses can be repeated with a different company, e.g. 481 can be taken twice,<br />

subject to availability and the coordinator’s consent. These courses are graded<br />

on a Pass/Fail system. A fee is required for this course.<br />

BUS 491, 492, 493 – Independent Study (1-6, 1-6, 1-6)<br />

Prerequisite: Junior standing. Work in a special area of student interest,<br />

subject to departmental approval and supervision.<br />

A student interested in Communication may choose from the following<br />

majors: Strategic Communication (Public Relations), Journalism and<br />

Documentary Production, and Media Studies. Students majoring in one of<br />

the areas listed above will be prepared to understand and work in a variety of<br />

mediated environments such as television, radio, Internet-based technologies,<br />

<br />

media sales. Students majoring in Media Studies will focus on the preparation<br />

to further their studies in a graduate program.
