Students meeting all the<br />

admission and degree requirements for graduating from a state-approved<br />

<br />

regulations do change from time to time, and students majoring in education<br />

<br />

The Chair of the Education Department serves as the Director of Teacher<br />

Education at <strong>Flagler</strong> and is responsible for the administration and interpretation of<br />

<strong>College</strong> and State Department of Education policies relative to teacher preparation.<br />

<br />

<strong>Flagler</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> requires passing scores on the FTCE before students are assigned<br />

to their 16-week internship. Students completing degree requirements must<br />

<br />

State Approved Program: The teacher education programs at <strong>Flagler</strong> are<br />

State Approved, which means the programs meet the standards prescribed by<br />

the Florida Department of Education. Therefore, <strong>Flagler</strong> graduates are eligible<br />

<br />

<br />

General Education Requirements for<br />

Teacher Education Majors<br />

General education requirements are listed on the “Degree Requirements<br />

Checklists” for each major. These “Checklists” are also available in the Education<br />

<br />

<br />

Student Education and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing<br />

majors include:<br />

<br />

semester hours in understanding the reading process, beginning reading<br />

<br />

instruction, and teaching reading across the content areas for primary<br />

and intermediate grades leading to a Reading endorsement.
