William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund to Support<br />

African American Students. Established in 2012 by the William Randolph<br />

Hearst Foundations of New York in order to increase the number of African-<br />

American students who apply to, are accepted by, and enroll in <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

The Hearst Foundations fund exemplary institutions of higher education<br />

dedicated to preparing students to succeed in a global society. To qualify, the<br />

student must be an African American United States resident and intend to<br />

permanently reside in the United States after completion of his or her studies.<br />

Jonathan Heath Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was<br />

established through gifts to <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong> by family, friends, and classmates<br />

as a memorial to Jonathan Heath, a member of the class of 1991. To qualify, a<br />

student must be a senior majoring in the Theatre Arts, Media Studies, Strategic<br />

Communication (PR), or Journalism and Documentary Production, have a<br />

need.<br />

E. Virginia Hein Memorial Scholarship for Women in Business.<br />

This award was established in 2010 to honor the late Mrs. E. Virginia Hein,<br />

mother of St. Augustine resident and <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong> supporter, Ms. Ruth<br />

Shugart. Mrs. Hein graduated from the women’s college, Flora Stone Mather<br />

Western Reserve Institute, now CASE Western Reserve University, as a dietician.<br />

To qualify, a woman must be a full-time student in good standing.<br />

Walter Hirshberg Memorial Scholarship (established by the Clint<br />

Foundation). This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. John H.<br />

McClintock, Jr., and the Clint Foundation as a memorial to their friend, Walter<br />

Hirshberg. The scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior of good<br />

standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Students must also be working<br />

part time and recipients must make a moral commitment to help other students in<br />

need.<br />

John Charles (Jay) Jennison III Memorial Scholarship. A<br />

scholarship in memory of Jay Jennison was established in 2010 through gifts by<br />

family, friends, and the Athletic Department at <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong>. It is awarded each<br />

year to a student-athlete who best exhibits the nine core values of the First Tee<br />

<br />

perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. A longtime resident of St. Augustine,<br />

Jay was an outstanding amateur golfer having played intercollegiate golf at the<br />

University of Virginia and having won several amateur tournaments. He served<br />

as the golf coach at <strong>Flagler</strong> from 2007 to 2009. Jay was passionate about the<br />

game of golf, and he devoted a great amount of time to developing the junior golf<br />

program in northeast Florida, serving as the Executive Director of First Tee of St.<br />

Johns County. He also established the St. Augustine Amateur Golf Tournament
