THA 491, 492, 493– Independent Study (1-4)<br />

Prerequisites: Theatre Arts majors only, junior status, and must have a 3.0<br />

G.P.A. Individualized project in theatre proposed by the student to focus in an area<br />

not offered on a regular basis. This course is graded on a letter grade system.<br />

THA 494 – Directed Studies in Theatre (2-4)<br />

Prerequisites: Theatre Arts majors only and junior status, approved by the<br />

Theatre Arts Department Chair. Individualized project proposed by student,<br />

approved by Theatre Arts Department Chair, and monitored on a regular basis by<br />

a full-time faculty member. Directed Studies are offered in four different areas/<br />

discipline within the Theatre Arts Department: teaching assistant, assistant<br />

director, design: set/lighting/costumes, and performance/choreography. Students<br />

may take a Directed Studies more than once but not in the same discipline.<br />

Youth Ministry (RST)<br />

Youth Ministry Minor: The Youth Ministry minor is a program of study<br />

intended to prepare students intellectually and experientially for a wide variety<br />

of ministerial and church-related vocations, religious studies, and seminary. In<br />

in areas such as Young Life, local churches, and other institutions, agencies,<br />

<br />

encouragement and nurturing available from faculty and staff connected to the<br />

program and from advisement concerning vocational opportunities.<br />

The Youth Ministry Minor requires 21 semester hours consisting of the following:<br />

1. Required <strong>Course</strong>s (12 hours): RST 101, 202, 401, 470<br />

2. Required Internship (3 hours): RST 481, RST 482, or RST 483<br />

3. Electives (6 hours): REL 101; REL 102; REL 211; REL 212; REL 301; REL<br />

302; REL 312; REL 317; REL 321; REL 335; REL 340; REL 411; REL 423;<br />

REL 430; REL 440; REL 470; REL 481, REL 482, REL 483; and REL 491,<br />

REL 492, REL 493.<br />

RST 101 – Introduction to Youth Ministry (3)<br />

A course designed to acquaint students with the challenges and opportunities<br />

of ministry with youth. The academic focus will be a theological examination of<br />

calling, ministry and gifts, and an introduction to the adolescent youth culture.<br />

The practical focus will be upon the various areas of youth ministry, including<br />

Prerequisite: RST 101. A survey of the history, purpose, theology, organization
