Strategic Communication. An examination of pertinent theories of persuasion<br />

and media and related research methods, for the process of research and<br />

evaluation in strategic communication. Students will be expected to carry out a<br />

COM 405 – International Communication (3)<br />

Prerequisite: COM 222 or COM 217 ororor permission<br />

of instructor. This course is a survey of international communication. It closely<br />

examines the global mass media and the historical, theoretical, cultural, economic,<br />

intriguing legal, ethical, and cultural issues regarding the media in the world today.<br />

COM 420 – Media Law (3)<br />

or PLA 380. A study of the legal rights and responsibilities<br />

of the mass media and their relationship to contemporary law. Includes problems of<br />

COM 431 – Videogaming (3)<br />

Prerequisites: Junior Standing. This course is designed as an advance study<br />

of video games and video game culture in our society. We will seek to explore<br />

<br />

of gaming today. Further, we will explore the intersection of production and<br />

reception. This course also features the use of analytical frameworks, such as<br />

textual analysis, gender analysis and reception analysis to examine video games.<br />

We will explore the potential negatives and positives of video games. You will be<br />

expected to use these analytical frameworks to understand video game texts and<br />

to explore game culture. You will interact with these frameworks through class<br />

discussions, exams, journal entries, and a short paper.<br />

COM 435 - Senior Seminar in Media Studies (3)<br />

Prerequisites: Completion of 100 credit hours. This course is emphasizes<br />

research, planning, and rewriting drafts. Students meet in a collaborative<br />

Each instructor chooses a research interest on which to base the course, and<br />
