<strong>Course</strong>s of Instruction 259<br />

Information about the International Studies Minor, including the opportunity<br />

for internship and study abroad, can be obtained by contacting the Chair of the<br />

Humanities Department. Internships taken in conjunction with this minor must<br />

be approved by the appropriate department, prior to the internship.<br />

International Internship and Study Abroad (Optional): Interested<br />

students may earn up to 15 credit hours in a joint internship and study abroad<br />

experience. Participants take academic courses and also receive internship<br />

credit through participation in community service projects. Internship and<br />

study abroad credits may be used to satisfy elective requirements needed for<br />

graduation, but they do not satisfy course requirements for the International<br />

<br />

Core <strong>Course</strong>s: A total of 15 hours are required from the following core courses:<br />

Cultural Studies: A total of six hours must be selected from the following<br />

courses in cultural studies:<br />

HIS/LAS 201 Introduction to Mexico, Central America and West Indies 3<br />

HIS/LAS 202 Introduction to South America 3<br />

HIS 302 European History 3<br />

LAS 335 Contemporary Issues in Latin America 3<br />

HIS 407 History of Russia and the Soviet State 3<br />

In addition to the courses listed above, special topics courses in cultural<br />

studies are offered in the Humanities Department. With departmental approval,<br />

these special topics courses may be counted towards the cultural studies<br />

requirement for the minor in international studies.
