Three degrees of distinction are awarded to graduating seniors based on their<br />

cumulative grade point averages for all academic work attempted, including the<br />

semester’s work in which the baccalaureate degree requirements are completed.<br />

According to the level of academic achievement, the degree may be awarded cum<br />

laude (3.5-3.69), magna cum laude (3.7-3.89) or summa cum laude (3.9-<br />

4.0). To qualify for graduation with honors, a student must complete at least 56<br />

credit hours of academic work at <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong> that carry letter grades. Pass/fail<br />

options are not applicable. All courses for which no quality points are assigned are<br />

The grade point average will be rounded to the hundredth decimal place.<br />

Academic Requirements for Continuation<br />

Attendance at <strong>Flagler</strong> <strong>College</strong> is a privilege granted solely by the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Enrollment for one semester or term in no way obligates or requires the <strong>College</strong><br />

to extend or continue a student’s enrollment beyond the semester or term. At the<br />

conclusion of any semester or term, the <strong>College</strong> is at liberty to disallow a student<br />

to continue his or her enrollment. Moreover, the <strong>College</strong> reserves the right to<br />

withdraw, suspend, or dismiss at any time, a student whose conduct is adjudged as<br />

inconsistent with the traditions, rules, standards, and regulations of the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Students are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of<br />

2.0 or better to remain in good academic standing. The following procedures<br />

are designed to ensure thorough consideration of a student’s progress and<br />

At the conclusion of each term, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs<br />

reviews the academic records of students whose semester average or cumulative<br />

average falls below a 2.0, or who fail to complete at least 67% of their coursework.<br />

The Associate Dean considers the student’s cumulative grade point average,<br />

semester grade point average, number of semesters enrolled at <strong>Flagler</strong>, current<br />

academic status, intended major, performance related to academic aptitude,<br />

and performance related to the guidelines for continuation. After careful review<br />

and in light of the Associate Dean’s own professional judgment, the Associate<br />

Dean determines whether a student receives an academic warning, is placed on<br />

probation, is suspended, or is dismissed. Listed below are explanations of, and<br />

conditions for, the four types of action that can be taken by the Associate Dean.<br />

Academic Warning: An academic warning is issued to students whose<br />

semester grade point average is below 2.0 and/or whose good academic standing<br />

is in jeopardy. Academic warning is a precautionary admonition that is meant to
