2.4 Summary<br />

The <strong>Flood</strong> Events Inventory update effort focused on the period 1950-present. This update was<br />

based on a review of existing information contained in the current <strong>Flood</strong> Events Inventory <strong>and</strong><br />

the collection <strong>and</strong> compilation of new data necessary for updating the <strong>Flood</strong> Events Inventory<br />

for the required period. The starting point was the inventory of flood event information that<br />

accompanied the WRMD report “A Preliminary Study of <strong>Flood</strong>ing in Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

Labrador (1998-2008)” which identified 179 flood occurrences <strong>and</strong> 70 flood producing events.<br />

The updated, current <strong>Flood</strong> Events Inventory contains 650 flood occurrences <strong>and</strong> documents<br />

269 flood producing events, an addition of 471 records, identifying a flood event at a location<br />

(community or damage area), <strong>and</strong> 199 storm events. Source data for new records added to the<br />

inventory are available electronically as a component deliverable with the inventory. The data<br />
