3.3.3.3 L<strong>and</strong> Cover Change<br />

Change detection analysis compared 2010 SPOT-based classified images to EOSD l<strong>and</strong> cover<br />

data from 2000. EOSD data were aggregated to forest <strong>and</strong> non-forest classes <strong>and</strong> compared to<br />

the classified l<strong>and</strong> cover (Table 3-6). Given the coarser resolution of the EOSD compared with<br />

the SPOT image classification, a review of the 3 “sparse” forest classes in the table below was<br />

conducted to consider whether these pixels should be included in the Open Spaces or<br />

Fields/Pastures classes. Upon review, the sparse forest classes provided an accurate<br />

representation of sparse forest cover <strong>and</strong> were therefore kept in the forest class <strong>and</strong><br />

subsequent analysis of deforested areas. Table 3-6 illustrates how the EOSD classes were<br />

aggregated for change detection.<br />
