10.5 GAPS AND UNMET NEEDS• The estimated 1.25 million HIV-infected adults not taking cotrimoxazole is alarge unmet need.• The 214,000 people eligible to take ARVs but not taking them representanother large unmet need.• Low coverage for both cotrimoxazole and ARVs were largely due to lowawareness of HIV status among adults with HIV. Testing persons at risktested for HIV remains a major priority.• High access to both cotrimoxazole and ARV therapy suggests that oncediagnosis is made, care and treatment services are available and accessiblefor HIV-infected individuals aware of their status.KAIS 2007 195
