2.14 GAPS AND UNMET NEEDS• The epidemiology of HIV in Kenya cannot be fully described withoutinformation on populations that are at particular risk for infection, includingmen who have sex with men, persons who inject drugs and persons that pay orreceive money or gifts in exchange for sex. These behaviors were notcaptured in the 2007 KAIS.• The burden of HIV infection among children under the age of 15 years isunknown and was not captured in the 2007 KAIS, presenting a challenge forplanning for HIV care and treatment programs for children.• Future surveys should consider expanding data collection efforts to includethese groups to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the HIV epidemic.KAIS 2007 51
