Population estimates reported in this chapter were calculated based 2007 projected population byprovince, age group and sex reported in The Analytical Report on Population Projections, Volume II,Kenyan National Bureau of Statistics (2002). Weighted national estimates for selected indicators fromthe 2007 KAIS were used in these calculations. Detailed methods used for calculating populationestimates are described in Appendix A.2.3 HIV PREVALENCE BY AGE GROUP AND SEXAccording to the 2007 KAIS, 7.1% of Kenyan adults aged 15‐64 years were infected with HIV atthe time of the survey (Table 2.3). A significantly greater proportion of women (8.4%) than men(5.4%) were infected with HIV. There were an estimated 863,000 women and 519,000 men aged15‐64 years living with HIV at the time of the survey.
