In total, 45.8% of women who were pregnant and 44.6% of womenwho were not pregnant during the survey returned to receive their test results. The rate ofreturning to receive test results was slightly higher among women who were unsure of theirpregnancy status (52.7%), but this difference was not significant. Among women who werepregnant or unsure if they were pregnant and infected with HIV, HSV‐2 or syphilis, 43.0%returned to receive their test results and 57.0% did not.KAIS 2007 278
15.6 GAPS AND UNMET NEEDS• An estimated one-half of participants in the 2007 KAIS did not return to receivetheir test results. For future population-based surveys, methods to return agreater proportion of HIV and other test results should be explored. The use ofhealth facilities to return test results, for example, is logistically challengingand may delay participants from receiving test results in a timely manner.Future surveys should explore how to return test results to participantsefficiently and quickly.• The proportion of respondents that returned to receive their test results wassignificantly greater in rural areas than in urban areas. Different approaches forreturning survey test results may need to be developed for participants in ruralversus urban areas.• The proportion of participants who returned to receive their test results as acouple was relatively low in the 2007 KAIS. Programs for couples testing andcounseling should be strengthened.KAIS 2007 279
