CHAPTER 8y1 y2 y3 y4isx c uThe difference between this example and Example 8.1 is that a binary orordered categorical (ordinal) distal outcome has been added to the modelas shown in the picture above. The distal outcome u is regressed on thecategorical latent variable c using logistic regression. This isrepresented as the thresholds of u varying across classes. The CATEGORICAL option is used to specify which dependentvariables are treated as binary or ordered categorical (ordinal) variablesin the model and its estimation. In the example above, u is a binary orordered categorical variable. The program determines the number ofcategories for each indicator. The default is that the thresholds of u areestimated and vary across the latent classes. Because automatic startingvalues are used, it is not necessary to include these class-specificstatements in the model command. The default estimator for this type ofanalysis is maximum likelihood with robust standard errors. TheESTIMATOR option of the ANALYSIS command can be used to selecta different estimator. An explanation of the other commands can befound in Example 8.1.212
