CHAPTER 18printed is too large to fit in the space provided. This happens whenvariables are measured on a large scale. To reduce the risk ofcomputational difficulties, it is recommended to keep variables on ascale such that their variances do not deviate too far from the range ofone to ten. Variables can be rescaled using the DEFINE command.OUTPUT OPTIONSSAMPSTATThe SAMPSTAT option is used to request sample statistics for the databeing analyzed. For continuous variables, these include sample means, sample variances, sample covariances, and sample correlations. Forbinary and ordered categorical (ordinal) variables using weighted leastsquares estimation, these include sample thresholds; first- and secondordersample proportions if the model has all binary dependent variables;sample tetrachoric, polychoric and polyserial correlations for modelswithout covariates; and sample probit regression coefficients and sampleprobit residual correlations for models with covariates. TheSAMPSTAT option is not available for censored variables usingmaximum likelihood estimation, unordered categorical (nominal)variables, count variables, binary and ordered categorical (ordinal)variables using maximum likelihood estimation, and time-to-eventvariables. The sample correlation and covariance matrices can be savedin an ASCII file using the SAMPLE option of the SAVEDATAcommand.Following is an example of the sample statistics for the continuousoutcome example introduced at the beginning of this chapter.SAMPLE STATISTICSMeansY1 Y2 Y3 Y4 X________ ________ ________ ________ ________0.104 0.092 0.035 0.050 -0.046CovariancesY1 Y2 Y3 Y4 X________ ________ ________ ________ ________Y1 1.608Y2 1.028 1.487Y3 1.027 0.957 1.451640
