MODEL CommandFor continuous latent variables, the residual variances are estimated asthe default. The residuals of the latent variables are correlated as thedefault because residuals are correlated for latent variables that do notinfluence any other variable in the model except their own indicators. These defaults can be overridden. Means, variances, and covariances ofthe independent variables in the model should not be mentioned in theMODEL command because the model is estimated conditioned on thecovariates. An ON statement can be used to describe the regression relationshipbetween an observed dependent variable and an observed independentvariable. Following is an example of how to specify the regression of anobserved dependent variable y9 on the observed independent variablex9:y9 ON x9;The general form of the ON statement is used to describe regressionrelationships for continuous latent variables and observed variables thatare continuous, censored, binary, ordered categorical (ordinal), counts, censored inflated, and count inflated. The ON option has specialfeatures for categorical latent variables and unordered categorical(nominal) observed variables which are described below.CATEGORICAL LATENT VARIABLES ANDUNORDERED CATEGORICAL (NOMINAL) OBSERVEDVARIABLESFor categorical latent variables and unordered categorical (nominal)observed variables, the ON option is used to describe the multinomiallogistic regression of the categorical latent variable or the unorderedcategorical (nominal) observed variable on one or more independentvariables. For a categorical latent variable, an ON statement is specified for eachlatent class except the last class which is the reference class. A classlabel is used to refer to each class. Class labels use the convention ofadding to a variable name the number symbol (#) followed by a number. For a categorical latent variable c with three classes,c#1 c#2 ON x1-x3;579
