CHAPTER 17impliesy1 WITH y4;y1 WITH y5;y1 WITH y6;y2 WITH y4;y2 WITH y5;y2 WITH y6;y3 WITH y4;y3 WITH y5;y3 WITH y6;The PWITH option cannot be used with the simplified language forcategorical latent variables.VARIANCES/RESIDUAL VARIANCESFor convenience, no distinction is made in how variances and residualvariances are referred to in the MODEL command. The model defineswhether the parameter to be estimated is a variance or a residualvariance. Variances are estimated for independent variables and residualvariances are estimated for dependent variables. Variances ofcontinuous and censored observed variables and continuous latentvariables are free to be estimated as the default. Variances of categoricalobserved variables are not estimated. When the Theta parameterizationis used in either a growth model or a multiple group model, variances forcontinuous latent response variables for the categorical observedvariables are estimated. Unordered categorical (nominal) observedvariables, observed count variables, and categorical latent variables haveno variance parameters.A list of observed or latent variables refers to the variances or residualvariances of those variables. For example,y1 y2 y3;refers to the variances of y1, y2, and y3 if they are independent variablesand refers to the residual variances of y1, y2, and y3 if they aredependent variables. The statement means that the variances or residualvariances are free parameters to be estimated using default startingvalues.584
