TITLE, DATA, VARIABLE, And DEFINE CommandsKNOWNCLASS = c1 (gender = 0 gender = 1);where c1 is a categorical latent variable named and defined using theCLASSES option of the VARIABLE command. The information inparentheses following the categorical latent variable name defines theknown classes using an observed variable. In this example, the observedvariable gender is used to define the known classes. The first classconsists of individuals with the value 0 on the variable gender. Thesecond class consists of individuals with the value 1 on the variablegender.TRAININGThe TRAINING option is used to identify the variables that containinformation about latent class membership and specify whether theinformation is about class membership, probability of class membership,or priors of class membership. The TRAINING option has threesettings: MEMBERSHIP, PROBABILITIES, and PRIORS.MEMBERSHIP is the default. Training variables can be variables fromthe NAMES statement of the VARIABLE command and variablescreated using the DEFINE command and the DATA transformationcommands. This option is available only for models with a singlecategorical latent variable.Following is an example of how the TRAINING option is used for anexample with three latent classes where the training variables containinformation about class membership:TRAINING = t1 t2 t3;where t1, t2, and t3 are variables that contain information about latentclass membership. The variable t1 provides information aboutmembership in class 1, t2 provides information about membership inclass 2, and t3 provides information about membership in class 3. Anindividual is allowed to be in any class for which they have a value ofone on a training variable. An individual who is known to be in class 2would have values of 0, 1, and 0 on t1, t2, and t3, respectively. Anindividual with unknown class membership would have the value of 1 ont1, t2, and t3. An alternative specification is:TRAINING = t1 t2 t3 (MEMBERSHIP);507
