CCTNS Functional & Technical Specifications4.5 EXISTING CLIENT SITE INFRASTRUCTUREExisting Network InformationThe present communication network in the Police Department, has been looked after byAssam Police Radio Organization (APRO). They uses following networks forcommunication:i. POLNETii. VHF – RTiii. GSMiv. Landlinei. POLNET was started in 26 districts, under the assistance of Central Government, overa period of 2003 -2006. Presently, it is functioning only in 18 districts and another 8 ns.are dysfunctional due to non-availability of fund for maintenance and obsolence oftechnology platform. The network connected all SP offices via 256kbps link. The highmaintenance cost and redundant technology made the polnet today an unviableproposition.ii.VHF-RT : This is presently the backbone of the Assam Police Communication whichcovers all districts , SDPO, Police Station, SP offices, Border outpost, Out Post ,mobile patrolling, APBN etc. The network has 1376 fixed stations and 3600 mobilestations. The methodology adopted by the organization is quite unique and beingappreciated in the entire country for its ability to connect remotest geographicallychallenging corners of the State. There are around 14 nos. repeater stations strategicallylocated for amplification and modulation of signals across the State, which candelivered the desired message at the right time in right location. The network used tohandle approximately 28000 text messages per day, which is roughly 14 lakh word perday. Since the network uses VHF , there is no recurring bandwidth cost. This networkis managed by APRO ( Assam Police Radio Organisation, head quartered at GuwahatiAssam Police Page 28
