Teach students about healthy eating through nutrition education and school gardens,thereby setting the stage for life-long healthy eating habits; and3. Provide Oklahoma farmers with new markets for their products.B. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry shall be the leadpublic agency for general administration and moni<strong>to</strong>ring of the Oklahoma <strong>Farm</strong>-<strong>to</strong>-<strong>School</strong>Program and activities related <strong>to</strong> the Program. The State Department of Education shallprovide assistance and staff support for the implementation of the Oklahoma <strong>Farm</strong>-<strong>to</strong>-<strong>School</strong> Program Act.C. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry shall establishguidelines for the award of grants <strong>to</strong>:1. <strong>School</strong> districts <strong>to</strong> incorporate food from local farmers on school menus and <strong>to</strong> implementnutrition education programs; and2. Local farmers <strong>to</strong> do the planning, development, and implementation of the new schoolmarket.SECTION 3. NEW LAW A new section of law <strong>to</strong> be codified in the Oklahoma Statutesas Section 1962 of Title 2, unless there is created a duplication in numbering, reads asfollows:A. There is hereby created until July 1, 2007, the Oklahoma <strong>Farm</strong>-<strong>to</strong>-<strong>School</strong> TaskForce. The purpose of the Task Force shall be <strong>to</strong> study the obstacles <strong>to</strong> the operationof the Oklahoma <strong>Farm</strong>-<strong>to</strong>-<strong>School</strong> Program and make recommendations <strong>to</strong> address theproblems and issues.<strong>Farm</strong> Conclusions <strong>to</strong> <strong>School</strong> and Sample RecommendationsTools and ResourcesB. The Task Force shall be composed of fifteen (15) members as follows:1. The Secretary of Agriculture or a designee;2. The Superintendent of Public Instruction or a designee;3. A representative of the Oklahoma State University Extension Services;4. A person who represents a vendor that supplies food <strong>to</strong> school districts in the state;and5. Eleven persons who are members of a nonprofit food policy council appointed by theGovernor.www.farm<strong>to</strong>school.org 171
