Review of <strong>Farm</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>School</strong> Evaluation LiteratureCommunity ImpactsOne program studied for this <strong>report</strong> (BTV-VT) addressed the broader impactsof a farm <strong>to</strong> school program on the food environment in neighborhoods, surroundingschool sites, or local food systems and distribution channels.►►BTV-VT conducted the 2006 Vermonter Poll, a statewide public opinion surveyof Vermonters. 14 Results showed that the impacts of the Food, <strong>Farm</strong> and NutritionEducation (FFN) such as the local farm <strong>to</strong> school program are reachingVermont at large. As many as 71% of parents with school age children <strong>report</strong>edthat their children had participated in the FFN program, 40% indicated thatchildren had shared FFN information with their family, 38% <strong>report</strong>ed that childrenwere willing <strong>to</strong> try new foods, and 26% <strong>report</strong>ed that their children eatmore fruits and vegetables. Parents were willing <strong>to</strong> pay an average of $1.63 morefor school lunches if the cafeteria served fresh, local food. Overall, 38% werewilling <strong>to</strong> pay between 10 cents and a dollar more for fresh local foods in theschool cafeterias.Results from the <strong>eval</strong>uation of the Burling<strong>to</strong>n Legacy Project’s Annual TownHall Meeting showed that 86% of the community was aware that there was anincrease in distribution of more fresh and local foods in Burling<strong>to</strong>n schools.
