2011 – 2012Graduation RequirementsGraduation Application Process• Submit the completed Application for Degree andDiploma, any approved course substitutions and finaltranscripts from all transfer institutions to Student BusinessServices (Sage Hall) and pay the appropriate fees forgraduation application by the published deadline for theterm in which you wish to graduate. The graduation feecovers the cost of the graduation check, the diploma, andparticipation in the annual commencement ceremony. (Thefee does not include cap and gown purchase, whichis handled separately by The Cove Bookstore). StudentBusiness Services sends the Application for Degree andDiploma, and certification of payment to GraduationEvaluations in the Records a& Registration office.• If the Application for Degree and Diploma is filed by thepublished deadline (see current semester schedule for filingdates and deadlines), a completed degree evaluation willbe emailed before the end of the add/drop period in astudent’s last semester. The graduation evaluation confirmsremaining requirements for graduation. The actual date ofgraduation will be the end of the semester in which allrequirements have been met.• The Degree Progress Report will display your GraduationStatus:- Applied for Graduation indicates that your Applicationfor Degree and Diploma has been received- Needs to Finish Pending Work indicates that a DegreeCheck has been completed• Participate in the commencement ceremony held atthe end of the spring semester if eligible (see policy onCommencement Participation).• Students not completing the requirements by expected dateof graduation must submit a change of graduation termform to the Student Business Service and pay the fee.• After Graduation Evaluators verify completion of all degreerequirements, a diploma is normally available within fourmonths of final clearance. Proof of graduation is availableby requesting official transcripts from Records& Registration.• Students may visit the Records & Registration website formore information regarding graduation at: http://www/records-registration/GradFAQ.htm.Commencement andHonors ConvocationCommencement and Honors Convocation are held each yearin the spring, bringing together local community members tocelebrate the accomplishment of our students.University HonorsTo receive honors at graduation at CI, a student must:1. Complete a minimum 30 units of courses taken at CI for aletter grade.2. Earn a grade point average of 3.50 or above in all worktaken at CI.3. Earn the following cumulative grade point average in allundergraduate courses, including transfer work:Summa Cum Laude - this honor is awarded to all students whoearn a grade point average of 3.90 - 4.0.Magna Cum Laude - this honor is awarded to all students whoearn a grade point average of 3.75 - 3.89Cum Laude - this honor is awarded to all students who earn agrade point average of 3.50 - 3.74.(SP 03-24)Commencement Ceremonies, Participating inStudents who have completed degree or credential requirementsthe previous summer or fall terms are eligible to participatein the ceremony along with those who plan to complete theirwork in the spring or subsequent summer and have filed anApplication for Degree and Diploma. Names of graduatesand degree candidates who have applied for graduation bythe published deadline will be published in the CommencementProgram unless a student has requested otherwise by filing aWithhold Directory Information (FERPA) form with Records andRegistration.(SA.16.002) (SP07-05)Graduate Student DegreeRequirements:Refer to Graduate Studies Section of the <strong>catalog</strong> for details.Degree Progress ReportThe Degree Progress Report (DPR) contains customized degreeprogress information, which can assist you in planning yourcourse of study. The DPR outlines general education, graduation,major and minor (if applicable) requirements. It is studentspecific and will display requirements you have met andrequirements you have yet to meet using internal credit (CIcourses) and external credit (transfer and test credit). When youhave not met a requirement, the report will list course optionsthat will meet the requirement. To ensure timely graduation,always work with your academic advisor. Review your transfercredit report for accuracy. Several tutorials and the How toView Your Degree Progress Reports document are available.These documents will guide you through the steps to access yourreport, as well as allow you to request updates to your DPR.
