Possesses a high school diploma (or has establishedequivalence through either the General EducationalDevelopment or California High School ProficiencyExaminations).2. Has not been enrolled in college as a full-time student formore than one term during the past five years.3. If there has been any college attendance in the last fiveyears, has earned a C average or better in all college workattempted.Consideration will be based upon space availability and ajudgment as to whether the applicant is as likely to succeedas a regularly admitted freshman or transfer student and willinclude an assessment of basic skills in the English languageand mathematical computation. Due to limited availability, <strong>CSU</strong><strong>Channel</strong> <strong>Islands</strong> currently does not accept students as adultstudents.Graduation Requirement in Writing ProficiencyAll students must demonstrate competency in writing skills as arequirement for graduation. Information on currently availableways to meet this graduation requirement may be obtained fromthe Records and Registration office.Graduation Writing Assessment RequirementThe Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement will besatisfied through the completion of nine units of upper-divisioninterdisciplinary general education courses, which are writingintensive.(SP 14-03)Graduate and Post-BaccalaureateAdmission RequirementsAdmission RequirementsGraduate and post-baccalaureate applicants may apply for adegree objective, a credential or certificate objective, or whereapproved, may have no program objective. Depending on theobjective, the <strong>CSU</strong> will consider an application for admission asfollows:• General Requirements — The minimum requirements foradmission to graduate and post baccalaureate studies ata California State University campus are in accordancewith university regulations as well as Title 5, Chapter 1,Subchapter 3 of the California Code of Regulations.• Specifically, a student shall at the time of enrollment: (1)have completed a four-year college course of studyand hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from aninstitution accredited by a regional accrediting association,or shall have completed equivalent academic preparationas determined by appropriate campus authorities; (2) bein good academic standing at the last college or universityattended; (3) have earned a grade point average of atleast 2.5 on the last degree completed by the candidateor have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5(A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted;and (4) satisfactorily meet the professional, personal,scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, includingqualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authoritiesmay prescribe. In unusual circumstances, a campus maymake exceptions to these criteria.• Students who meet the minimum requirements for graduateand post-baccalaureate studies may be considered foradmission in one of the four following categories:o Graduate Classified – To pursue a graduate degree,applicants are required to fulfill all of the professional,personal, scholastic, and other standards, includingqualifying examinations, prescribed by the campus; oro Graduate Conditionally Classified – Applicants maybe admitted to a graduate degree program in thiscategory if, in the opinion of appropriate campusauthority, deficiencies may be remedied by additionalpreparation; oro Post-Baccalaureate Classified, e.g. admission to aneducation credential program – Persons wishing toenroll in a credential or certificate program, will berequired to satisfy additional professional, personal,scholastic, and other standards, including qualifyingexaminations, prescribed by the campus; oro Post-Baccalaureate Unclassified – To enroll inundergraduate courses as preparation for advanceddegree programs or to enroll in graduate coursesfor professional or personal growth, applicants must beadmitted as post-baccalaureate unclassified students.By meeting the general requirements, applicants areeligible for admission as post-baccalaureate unclassifiedstudents. Admission in this status does not constituteadmission to, or assurance of consideration foradmission to, any graduate degree or credentialprogram (most <strong>CSU</strong> campuses do not offer admission tounclassified post-baccalaureate students).(These and other <strong>CSU</strong> admission requirements are subject tochange as policies are revised and laws are amended. The<strong>CSU</strong> website www.calstate.edu and the <strong>CSU</strong> admissions portalwww.csumentor.edu are good sources of the most up-to-dateinformation.)Graduate-Post-Baccalaureate EnglishLanguage RequirementAll graduate and post-baccalaureate applicants, regardless ofcitizenship, whose native language is not English and whosepreparatory education was principally in a language otherthan English, must demonstrate competence in English. Thosewho do not possess a bachelor’s degree from a postsecondaryinstitution where English is the principal language of instructionmust receive a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English asa Foreign Language (TOEFL).
