Such admission is only for a given specific programand does not constitute a right to continued enrollment.Transfer Policies of <strong>CSU</strong> campusesAuthority for decisions regarding the transfer of undergraduatecredits is delegated to each California State University (<strong>CSU</strong>)campus. Most commonly, college level credits earned froman institution of higher education accredited by a regionalaccrediting agency recognized by the United States Departmentof Education is accepted for transfer to campuses of the <strong>CSU</strong>.The <strong>CSU</strong> General Education-Breadth (GE-Breadth) programallows California community college transfer students to fulfilllower-division general education requirements for any <strong>CSU</strong>campus prior to transfer. Up to 39 of the 48 GE-Breadthunits required can be transferred from and certified by aCalifornia college. “Certification” is the official notificationfrom a California community college that a transfer student hascompleted courses fulfilling lower-division general educationrequirements. The <strong>CSU</strong> GE-Breadth certification course listfor particular community colleges can be accessed at www.assist.org.Campuses may enter into articulation agreements on eithera course for course or program to program basis. Sucharticulations are common between <strong>CSU</strong> campuses and any orall of the California community colleges, but may exist between<strong>CSU</strong> campuses and other institutions. Established <strong>CSU</strong>/CCCarticulations may be found on www.assist.org. No more than70 semester units may be transferred to a <strong>CSU</strong> campus froman institution which does not offer bachelor’s degrees or theirequivalents, e.g., community colleges. Given the university’s 30unit residency requirement, no more than 90 total units may betransferred into the university from all sources.Transfer RequirementsStudents who have completed fewer than 60 transferablesemester college units (fewer than 90 quarter units) areconsidered lower-division transfer students. Students who havecompleted 60 or more transferable semester college units (90or more quarter units) are considered upper-division transferstudents. Students who complete college units during highschool or through the summer immediately following high schoolgraduation are considered first-time freshmen and must meetthose admission requirements. Transferable courses are thosedesignated for baccalaureate credit by the college or universityoffering the courses and accepted as such by the campus towhich the applicant seeks admission.Lower Division Transfer RequirementsGenerally, applicants will qualify for admission as a lowerdivisiontransfer student if they have a grade point average ofat least 2.0 (C or better) in all transferable units attempted, arein good standing at the last college or university attended, andmeet any of the following standards:1. Will meet the freshman admission requirements (grade pointaverage and subject requirements) in effect for the term towhich they are applying (see “Freshman Requirements”section); or2. Were eligible as a freshman at the time of high schoolgraduation except for the subject requirements, and havebeen in continuous attendance in an accredited collegesince high school graduation, and have made up themissing subjects.Applicants who graduated from high school prior to 1988should contact the Admissions office to inquire about alternativeadmission programs. (Due to enrollment pressures, many <strong>CSU</strong>campuses do not admit lower division transfer applicants.)Making Up Missing College Preparatory SubjectRequirementsLower-division applicants who did not complete subjectrequirements while in high school may make up missing subjectsin any of the following ways:1. Complete appropriate courses with a C or better in adultschool or high school summer sessions.2. Complete appropriate college courses with a C or better.One college course of at least three semester or four quarterunits will be considered equivalent to one year of highschool study.3. Earn acceptable scores on specified examinations, e.g.,SAT subject tests.Please consult with any <strong>CSU</strong> Admission office for furtherinformation about alternative ways to satisfy the subjectrequirements. (Due to enrollment pressures, many <strong>CSU</strong>campuses do not admit lower division transfer applicants.<strong>CSU</strong> <strong>Channel</strong> <strong>Islands</strong> only accepts lower-division applicationsin the fall terms from pre-nursing majors.)Upper Division Transfer RequirementsGenerally, applicants will qualify for admission as an upperdivisiontransfer student if they meet all of the followingrequirements:1. They have a grade point average of at least 2.0 (C orbetter) in all transferable units attempted; and2. They are in good standing at the last college or universityattended; and they have completed at least 60 semesterunits of college coursework with a grade of C or betterin each course to be selected from courses in English,arts and humanities, social science, science andmathematics at a level at least equivalent to courses thatmeet general education requirements. The 60 units mustinclude at least 30 units of courses, which meet <strong>CSU</strong>general education requirement including all of the generaleducation requirements in communication in the Englishlanguage (both oral and written) and critical thinking andthe requirement in mathematics/quantitative reasoning(usually three semester units) or the Intersegmental GeneralEducation Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements inEnglish communication and mathematical concepts andquantitative reasoning.Provisional AdmissionCI may provisionally or conditionally admit transfer applicantsbased on their academic preparation and courses planned forcompletion. The campus will monitor the final terms to ensurethat those admitted complete all required courses satisfactorily.All accepted applicants are required to submit an officialtranscript of all college level work completed. Campuses mayrescind admission for any student who is found not to be eligibleafter the final transcript has been evaluated.
