2011 – 2012Admission Procedures and Policiesscore. Applicants taking the Computer-Based Test of English as aForeign Language must present a score of 213 or above. Someprograms may require a higher score. Several <strong>CSU</strong> campusesmay use alternative methods for assessing fluency in Englishincluding Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), theInternational English Language Testing System (IELTS), and theInternational Test of English Proficiency (ITEP).Returning StudentsReturning students who left CI for more than one semester andare still in good standing are expected to meet all admissionrequirements, deadlines, and procedures of new applicants.International (Foreign) StudentAdmission RequirementsThe <strong>CSU</strong> must assess the academic preparation of foreignstudents. For this purpose, “foreign students” include those whohold U.S. temporary visas as students, exchange visitors, or inother nonimmigrant classifications.The <strong>CSU</strong> uses separate requirements and application filingdates in the admission of “foreign students.” Verification ofEnglish proficiency (see the section on the English LanguageRequirement for undergraduate applicants), financial resources,and academic performance are each important considerationsfor admission. Academic records from foreign institutions mustbe on file at least six months in advance of enrollment forthe first term and, if not in English, must be accompanied bycertified English translations. Further information can be found athttp://www.csuci.edu/exed/international.htm.Other ApplicantsIntrasystem and Intersystem Enrollment ProgramsStudents enrolled at any <strong>CSU</strong> campus will have access tocourses at other <strong>CSU</strong> campuses on a space available basisunless those campuses or programs are impacted or admissionto the desired program or admission categories are closed. Thisaccess is offered without students being required to be admittedformally to the host campus and sometimes without payingadditional fees. Although courses taken on any <strong>CSU</strong> campuswill transfer to the student’s home <strong>CSU</strong> campus as electivecredit, students should consult their home campus academicadvisors to determine how such courses may apply to theirspecific degree programs before enrolling at the host campus.There are two programs for enrollment within the <strong>CSU</strong> and onefor enrollment between <strong>CSU</strong> and the University of California orCalifornia Community Colleges. Additional information aboutthese programs is available from the Enrollment Center.<strong>CSU</strong> Concurrent EnrollmentMatriculated students in good standing may enroll on a spaceavailable basis at both their home <strong>CSU</strong> campus and a host<strong>CSU</strong> campus during the same term. Credit earned at the hostcampus is reported at the student’s request to the home campusto be included on the student’s transcript at the home campus.<strong>CSU</strong> Visitor EnrollmentMatriculated students in good standing enrolled at one <strong>CSU</strong>campus may enroll on a space available basis at another<strong>CSU</strong> campus for one term. Credit earned at the host campusis reported at the student’s request to the home campus to beincluded on the student’s transcript at the home campus.Intersystem Cross EnrollmentMatriculated <strong>CSU</strong>, UC, or community college students mayenroll on a “space available” basis for one course per term atanother <strong>CSU</strong>, UC, or community college and request that atranscript of record be sent to the home campus. CI currentlydoes not accept students for intersystem cross enrollment.<strong>CSU</strong> Immunization RequirementsEntering <strong>CSU</strong> students are required to present proof of thefollowing immunizations to the <strong>CSU</strong> campus they will beattending before the beginning of their first term of enrollment.Measles and RubellaAll new and readmitted students must provide proof of fullimmunization against measles and rubella prior to enrollment.Hepatitis BAll new students who will be 18 years of age or younger atthe start of their first term at a <strong>CSU</strong> campus must provide proofof full immunization against Hepatitis B before enrolling. Fullimmunization against Hepatitis B consists of three timed dosesof vaccine over a minimum four-to-six month period. If you needfurther details or have special circumstances, please consult theStudent Health and Counseling Center at (805) 437-8828.Meningococcal DiseaseEach incoming freshman who will be residing in on-campushousing will be required to return a form indicating that theyhave received information about meningococcal disease andthe availability of the vaccine to prevent contracting the diseaseand indicating whether or not the student has chosen to receivethe vaccination. These are not admission requirements, but arerequired of students as conditions of enrollment in <strong>CSU</strong>.ReservationThe University reserves the right to select its students anddeny admission to the University or any of its programs asthe University, in its sole discretion, determines appropriatebased on an applicant’s suitability and the best interests of theUniversity.General Information - Admission andEvaluation of Academic RecordsAdvanced PlacementCI grants credit toward its undergraduate degrees for successfulcompletion of examinations of the Advanced PlacementProgram of the College Board. Students who present scoresof three or better will be granted up to six semester units (ninequarter units) of college credit. Exam credit will be available onthe Academic Advising website www.csuci.edu/academics/advising/articulation.htm after publication of this <strong>catalog</strong>. TheAP table included in this <strong>catalog</strong> indicates credit likely to begiven. It should be viewed as a guideline only and is subject tochange. Grade reports are sent automatically to CI if requestedby the student at exam time.
