IR supports university decision-making by compiling,analyzing, and reporting findings from institutional data. IRsupports the WASC accreditation process, as well as theUniversity’s efforts in assessment, accountability, and institutionaleffectiveness. IR also supports academic planning andenrollment management. Studies, reports, and findings areposted to the IR website.Research & Sponsored ProgramsLindero Hall, Room 1788(805) 437-8495Research & Sponsored Programs (RSP) serves and supports CIfaculty and staff engaged in sponsored projects that promoteresearch, scholarly and creative activities. RSP is responsible forguiding the campus community with the proposal development,ensuring that proposals are in compliance with the sponsor,campus, <strong>CSU</strong>, state and federal government regulations,including the Institutional Review Board requirements for theProtection of Human Subjects in Research. On behalf of theinstitution, the RSP submits final proposals to funding agencies,and negotiates and facilitates the final execution of the contractswith the funding agencies.John Spoor Broome Library(805) 437-8561www.library.csuci.edu/The John Spoor Broome Library is housed in an architecturallystunning building designed by the world famous British architectLord Norman Foster. The Library merges the campus missionarchitecture with a modern glass structure, combining both stylesinto a student–centered digital teaching library. The Library’smission is to enhance CI’s mission through active collaborationwith students, faculty, and staff in developing collections,services, information and computer literacy skills.The library gives students access to a robust collectionof 235,000 bound and digital books, over 20,000electronic journals and newspapers, numerous databases, acomprehensive digital image collection, DVD’s/VHS’s, CD’s,best sellers, and children’s books and K-8 curriculum materials.In addition, the Library houses a number of interesting archivaland special collections that can be used for original research.The Robert J. Lagomarsino Collection containspapers, photographs, furniture, and memorabilia relatingto Lagomarsino’s years of political service as a CaliforniaSenate member from 1961-1974 and as a United StatesCongressman from 1974-1992. Other archival and specialcollections include the University Archives, Jack O’Connell,Camarillo State Hospital, Elmer “Gene” Lore, Sr. Collection,Irene and Jorge Garcia Chicano Studies Collection, Jean M.Harris Papers, and Bottle Village.The Library provides students with opportunities to engage andcreate. The building is home to the University Writing Center,the Learning Resource Center, and the Information TechnologyHelp Desk. The building provides attractive and enticing spacesfor inquiry and study for both individuals and small groups.There are 130 hardwired computers with additional laptopcomputers available for check out. The Library also circulatesdigital cameras, digital video cameras, flip video cameras,digital tape recorders, and projection units. Each year theLibrary sponsors a number of events including the Children’sReading Celebrations and Young Authors Fair, Artwalk, and thelibrary’s traditional 24 hour final exam schedule where snacksand beverages are served at midnight.The Library offers classes and services that help students developlife-long information and computer skills. Librarians collaboratewith faculty in all disciplines to provide information literacysessions, resource specific instruction, reference service, andinstruction on digital equipment. The entire Library staff worksto insure that the John Spoor Broome Library is a helpful,comfortable, and welcoming place.University Writing CenterJohn Spoor Broome Library(805) 437-8409At the University Writing Center, trained tutors are availableto assist students with composing a first draft, organizing theirideas, and polishing their completed work. Students who wouldlike to review the fundamentals of grammar, syntax, and wordusage are invited to work with tutors on an individual basis or insmall group sessions with the center’s director. The center is alsoavailable to assist students with organizing their studies, takingnotes, and using research materials.The University Writing Center is open to talk with any studentabout writing -- whether it’s a term paper, lab report, oremployment letter. Our Writing tutors are available to helpwith editing, organizing a paper, and improving writing skills.Tutors assist students with any step in the writing process, frombrainstorming to creating a final draft. The Writing Centerprovides individual and group tutoring, writing workshops,and other services to meet the writing needs of undergraduateand graduate students. Appointments are at least 30 minutes,and can be as long as an hour. Tutoring is offered for subjects suchas ASL, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Spanish. Studentsshould contact the Learning Resource administrative assistant toobtain information regarding discipline tutoring available eachsemester. Students can receive extensive assistance in coursesdealing with basic mathematics, geometry, statistics, calculus,as well as higher mathematics.
