Topicsinclude: testing instruments, conceptsof intelligence, cognition, emotionaldevelopment, and specific developmentaldisorders in children, issues of languageand culture related to the assessment ofchildren.PSY 420 AFRICAN AMERICANFAMILIES (3)Three hours lecture per weekExamines the structure, values, andbehavior patterns of the contemporaryAfrican American family as influenced byAfrican culture and kinship systems andthe institution of slavery in association withother factors. The orientation to AfricanAmerican family life will emphasize itsstrengths, weaknesses, adaptations,strong kinship bonds, and family roles.PSY 424 ORGANIZATIONALBEHAVIOR (3)Three hours lecture per weekPrerequisites: MGT 307 or Consent ofinstructorAn application of behavioral sciencetheory and concepts with a focus onindividual, interpersonal and groupprocesses in a diverse work force.Topics include personality traits,emotions, values, work attitudes, workmotivation, organizational politics, groupeffectiveness and conflict. Extensive use ofindividual and group case analysis.Same as MGT 424PSY 429 INTERGROUP RELATIONS (3)Three hours lecture per weekPrerequisite: Junior or Senior standingProvides an overview of the socialpsychological study of intergrouprelations, emphasizing underlying socialand individual dynamics. Considerstheory and research in the field andthe application of these to a variety ofsocieties and groups. Topics include theimportance of groups in individual identitydevelopment; stereotypes, prejudice, anddiscrimination; intergroup inequality andinjustice; collective action, and socialprotest.PSY 432 SEMINAR IN LEADERSHIP (3)Three hours seminar per weekPrerequisite: Consent of instructorThis course gives students anopportunity to both study andexperience communicative, managerial,psychological, and sociologicalperspectives related to leadership.
