Master of Arts in EducationThe Master of Arts in Education provides advance preparationfor educational professionals. Two specializations are offered atCI: Educational Leadership and Special Education.Educational Leadership SpecializationThe Educational Leadership Specialization preparescandidates to complete the California Commission on TeacherCredentialing (CCTC) Preliminary Administrative ServicesCredential. Completion of this Level I administrative programprepares students to serve in positions of educational leadershipin the California Public Schools. Through integration of coursework and field experiences students are provided multipleopportunities to learn and practice the California ProfessionalStandards for School Leaders. The program offers studentsunderstanding and application of leadership skills relatedto relationship building, communication, and the ability toapply, model, and analyze curriculum, instructional strategies,assessment, standards-based accountability systems, anddata-based school improvement. The program also developseach student’s understanding of basic school administrativeresponsibilities including resource management, personnelsupervision, and daily operational issues related to safety, law,and public policy.Prior to recommendation for certification, University facultydetermine eligibility, based on fully documented evidence, thateach student has demonstrated satisfactory performance on thefull range of standards set forth by the CCTC. A master’s degreeis required for CI to recommend a candidate to the PreliminaryAdministrative Services Credential.
