Adams described these spots as being " round '' in thespecimen they examined ; in those before me they are ratherangular, being the zigzag turn of the longitudinal lines. A thirdvariety has a pale band round the middle of the last volution whichfalls at the lower part of the upper ones, the upper portion beingpinkish or closely lincolatcd with pink. The lower half of the bodywhorlhas a broad pinkish band beneath the cent ralwhite one, whichis succeeded by a narrower plain zone, which in turn is followed byanother fine pink one.A fourth form, with the exception of the upper part of the spireand the umbilical region, is of a uniform greyish violet.The largest specimen is twelve millim. long, and consists ofeight whorls. The spiral sulcation and ridging is much more developedin some specimens than others. In the largest there is quitea strong keel near the base of the upper whorls, which graduallydiminishes upon the last. In others the whorls are almost smooth,with the exception of the base of the last, which invariably presentsa few sulci circumscribing the narrow umbilicus. The presence ofthe latter peculiarity and the very slight difference in the columellado not appear to me sufficient characters to separate this speciesgenerically from Banlcivia. The general form of the shell, itstexture, and the style and variation of painting are the same. Otherpoints of resemblance are the thickening or margination of the whorlsat the suture, the striation or sulcation of the base of the last, thenon-pearly aperture, and finally their geogi'aphical distribution.A second species (?) of the section Le'wpiinia has been brieflydescribed by A. Adams (P. Z. S. 1863, p. 507) from Port Essington,under the name of L. cingulata. It presents similar variations incolouring as in the other species, and, indeed, might even be consideredanother form of it with the carinations and lirae more pronounced.99.
