In 2004, Professors André Geim and
Kostya Novoselov from the University of
Manchester in the UK isolated graphene,
a material with potentially endless
applications. Ultra-light, it is 200 times
stronger than steel, yet extremely flexible.
It can retain heat, yet is fire-resistant. It
can also act as an impenetrable barrier,
as not even helium can pass through it.
This discovery earned Professors Geim
and Novoselov the Nobel Prize in Physics
in 2010.
