Moneef R. Zou’bi (b.1963; Jordan) obtained a PhD in<br />

Science and Technology Studies from the University of<br />

Malaysia. He has been Director-General of the Islamic<br />

World Academy of Sciences since 1998, where he has<br />

tried to build bridges between science and development<br />

and between countries. Dr Zou’bi has participated in<br />

several studies implemented by the Islamic Development<br />

Bank and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.<br />

Samia Satti Osman Mohamed Nour (b. 1970; Sudan)<br />

is Associate Professor of Economics at the University of<br />

Khartoum and an affiliated researcher at UNU-MERIT<br />

(Netherlands). She received her PhD in Economics from<br />

Maastricht University (Netherlands) in 2005. Dr Nour<br />

is the author of several books, including Technological<br />

Change and Skills Development in Arab Gulf Countries<br />

(Springer, 2013) and Economic Systems of Innovation in<br />

the Arab Region (Palgrave Macmillan) in 2015.<br />

Jauad El Kharraz (b. 1977; Morocco) holds a PhD in<br />

Remote Sensing Sciences from the University of Valencia<br />

(Spain), where he is a member of the Global Change<br />

Unit. He is co-founder and General Secretary of the Arab<br />

World Association of Young Scientists and a member of<br />

the Task Force for the establishment of the Islamic World<br />

Academy of Young Scientists. Since 2004, Dr El Kharraz<br />

has been Information Manager in the Technical Unit of<br />

the Euro-Mediterranean Water Information System.<br />

Nazar M. Hassan (b. 1964; Sudan) has been Senior<br />

Science and Technology Specialist for the Arab States<br />

in <strong>UNESCO</strong>’s Cairo Office since 2009, where he has<br />

initiated several networks to build up the region’s<br />

technopreneurship culture. Previously, he worked in<br />

Beirut (Lebanon) as Senior Economist in the Sustainable<br />

Development Division of the United Nations Economic<br />

Commission for Western Asia. Dr Hassan received his<br />

PhD in Systems Optimization from the University of<br />

Massachusetts Amherst (USA).<br />
