Erika Kraemer–Mbula (b.1977: Equatorial Guinea) is a<br />

Research Fellow at the Institute for Economic Research<br />

on Innovation at Tshwane University of Technology in<br />

South Africa, which co-hosts the Centre of Excellence in<br />

Scientometrics and Science, Technology and Innovation<br />

Policy run jointly by the South African Department<br />

of Science and Technology and National Research<br />

Foundation. She holds a PhD in Development Studies<br />

from the University of Oxford and, in her work, has<br />

adopted a cross-disciplinary approach to exploring<br />

alternative development paths for African countries.<br />

Mario Scerri (b.1953: Republic of Malta) is a Senior<br />

Research Fellow at the Institute for Economic Research<br />

on Innovation and Professor of Economics at Tshwane<br />

University of Technology in South Africa. He is also a<br />

member of the Centre of Excellence in Scientometrics<br />

and Science, Technology and Innovation Policy run<br />

jointly by the South African Department of Science and<br />

Technology and National Research Foundation. He is<br />

the author of The Evolution of the South African System of<br />

Innovation since 1916 (Cambridge Scholars Publishing).<br />
