Example 2.1: Starting a Trellis
Let’s review and practice these techniques with a simple exercise: Let’s build a garden trellis.
As a first step in our trellis-building exercise, we need to create two vertical 8f-tall 6 × 6 posts.
1. Create a 5.5g × 5.5g square (using the Rectangle tool) on the ground plane (orbit your
view if necessary so that you are looking “down” onto the ground). Use direct value entry
into the Measurements Box for this:
2. Then use the Push/Pull tool to pull this rectangle up to an 8f height:
3. Now use point inference on the front corner of the newly created post to position the
new rectangle a distance along the red axis relative to the first post. Create the base
square as you did in step 1.
