Xli ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Ttlib 129<br />

- "Before one hundred years pass, the people<br />

who are alive today will be gone"<br />

Abu Mas'ood 'Uqbah ibn 'Amr d-AnsC entered upon '<strong>Ali</strong><br />

ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Taib, and '<strong>Ali</strong> (&) said to him: You are the one who says<br />

"Before one hundred years have passed, the people who are alive<br />

today will have gone." By Allah, the prosperity <strong>of</strong> this will come<br />

after one hundred years.262<br />

- The supplication <strong>of</strong> the Messenger (g)<br />

for blessing for the people <strong>of</strong> Madinah<br />

It was narrated from '<strong>Ali</strong> ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Tilib (&) that he said: We<br />

went out with the Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (s), and when we were in al-<br />

Harrah, at the water source belonging to Sa'd ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Waqqzs, the<br />

Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (g) said: "Bring the water for wudoo'." When<br />

he had done wudoo', he stood up and turned to face the qiblah,263<br />

then he said takbeer and said: "0 AUah, Ibriheem (@) was Your<br />

slave and Your close friend, and he prayed for blessing for the people<br />

<strong>of</strong> Makkah. I am Muhammad, Your slave and Your Messenger, and I<br />

pray to You for the people <strong>of</strong> Madinah, that you might bless them in<br />

their weights and measures as you blessed the people <strong>of</strong> Makkah,<br />

with a tw<strong>of</strong>old blessing."264<br />

- Supplication at the time <strong>of</strong> distress<br />

It was narrated that '<strong>Ali</strong> ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Tilib (&) said: The<br />

Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (s) taught me to say when distress befalls me:<br />

"Tbere is no God but AUah, the Forbearing, the Most Generous.<br />

Glory be to AUah and blessed be Allah, the Lord <strong>of</strong> the Mighty<br />

Throne, praise be to Allah the Lord <strong>of</strong> the<br />

This hadith<br />

shows us the necessity <strong>of</strong> attaching one's heart to Allah (&) alone<br />

and depending on Him and turning to Him. No one can grant relief<br />

except Him (B), and no one answers the prayer <strong>of</strong> one who is in<br />

desperate need when be calls upon Him except the One Who created
