slaughtered as a sacrifice for something other than Allah.'" <strong>Ibn</strong> Hazm<br />

said: The Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (g) said: "May Allah curse the one<br />

who <strong>of</strong>fers a sacrifice to anything other than The point<br />

here is that the slaughter was for the sake <strong>of</strong> pride and glory, which<br />

meant that it was sacrificed for something other than Allah (B), so it<br />

was included in what was referred to in this<br />

4. Impurity <strong>of</strong> the egg inside the dead hen<br />

An egg which is inside a dead hen is impure, according to '<strong>Ali</strong><br />

(4); it is not permissible to eat it whether the shell has hardened or<br />

not. That was narrated from him by <strong>Ibn</strong> ~ndk~ah.'~~<br />

5. Food <strong>of</strong> the polytheists and Magians other than meat<br />

There is nothing wrong with eating the food <strong>of</strong> the Magians<br />

and polytheists if it does not contain any meat slaughtered by them,<br />

because the prohibition applies only to meat. Amir al-Mu'mineen<br />

'<strong>Ali</strong> (&) said: 'There is nothing wrong with eating the food <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Magians. It is only meat slaughtered by them that is forbidden."l6'<br />

According to another report: "There is nothing wrong with eating the<br />

bread <strong>of</strong> the Magians. It is only their meat that is f~rbidden."'~~ This<br />

is the view <strong>of</strong> the majority <strong>of</strong> j~rists.'~'<br />

6. Leaving white hair<br />

It is permissible to leave one's hair white and not change it by<br />

dyeing it with henna and the like, according to '<strong>Ali</strong>(4).<br />

That was<br />

narrated from him by <strong>Ibn</strong> Hajar and others.'69 It was narrated that<br />

ash-Sha'bi said: ''I saw '<strong>Ali</strong> with a head <strong>of</strong> white hair and a white<br />

beard that filled the area between his two shou~ders."'~~ It was<br />

narrated from Ahu Ishiq: "I saw '<strong>Ali</strong> bald and with a white head and<br />

beard."17' It was narrated from <strong>Ibn</strong> al-Haneefah that '<strong>Ali</strong>(&) dyed<br />

his hair with henna once, then stopped.'72
