'<strong>Ali</strong> ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Tilib 403<br />

$Those [i.e. believers] unto whom the people [hypocrites] said,<br />

'Verily, the people [pagans] have gathered against you [a great<br />

army], therefore, fear them.' But it [only] increased them in Faith,<br />

and they said: 'Allah [Alone] is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best<br />

Disposer <strong>of</strong> affairs [for ns].'B (Qur'an 3: 173)<br />

So they say: Allah (&) is sufficient for us, meaning that He is<br />

sufficient to ward <strong>of</strong>f calamity. They are commanded to say: Allah<br />

(&) is sufficient to bring us blessings, and He is sufficient for His<br />

slave, to protect against evil and help him to attain good. 41s Allah not<br />

sufficient for His slave?# (Qur'an 39: 36) Whoever put his wst and<br />

hope in anyone other than Allah (&$) will be let down and deprived<br />

<strong>of</strong> help.<br />

$The likeness <strong>of</strong> those who (ake [false deities as] Awliyu' [protectors,<br />

helpers] other than Allah is the likeness <strong>of</strong> a spider who builds [for<br />

itselfl a house; but verily, the frailest [weakest] <strong>of</strong> houses is the<br />

spider's house.# (Qur'an 29: 41)<br />

$And they have a en [for worship] &huh [gods] besides Allah, that<br />

they might give them honour, power and glory [and also protect them<br />

from Allah's punishment]. Nay, but they [the so-called gods] will<br />

deny their worship <strong>of</strong> them, and become opponents to them [on the<br />

Day <strong>of</strong> Resurrection].# (Qnr'an 19: 81-82)<br />

B~nd whoever assigns partners to Allah, it is as if he had fallen from<br />

the sky, and the birds had snatched him, or the wind had thrown him<br />

to a far <strong>of</strong>f place.# (Qur'an 22: 31)<br />

dSet not up with Allah any other il2h [god], [0 man]! Fis verse is<br />

addressed to Prophet Muhammad, but its implication is general to all<br />

mankind], or you will sit down reproved, forsaken [in the hellfire].#<br />

(Qur'an 17: 22)<br />

(You worship besides Allah only idols, and you only invent<br />

falsehood. Verily, those whom you worship besides Allah have no
