5.4.3. Hadiths which mention virtues<br />

shared by al-Hasan and al-Husayn<br />

(may Allah be pleased with them)<br />

(a) Bukhari narrated with his chain <strong>of</strong> narration going back to <strong>Ibn</strong><br />

'Umar that a man from Iraq asked him about the pilgrim in Wam<br />

killing flies. He (&) said: "The people <strong>of</strong> Iraq are asking about<br />

flies when they killed the son <strong>of</strong> the daughter <strong>of</strong> the Messenger<br />

<strong>of</strong> Allah (@), and the Prophet (g) said: 'They are my two sweet<br />

smelling flowers in this<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> Hajar said: "What is<br />

meant is: they are among that with which Allah (&) has<br />

honoured me and blessed me, because children are to be smelled<br />

and kissed as if they are fragrant plants."3"<br />

(b) It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (&) said: "The Messenger <strong>of</strong><br />

Allah (g) said: 'Whoever loves them loves me, and whoever<br />

hates them hates me,"' meaning d-Hasan and al-~usa~n.~~'<br />

(c) It was narrated from al-Bara' ibn 'Lib (&) that the Messenger<br />

<strong>of</strong> Allah ( g) saw Hasan and Husayn and said: ''0 Allah, I love<br />

them, so love them."362<br />

(d) It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri (&) that the<br />

Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (g) .. said: "Al-Hasan and al-Husayn are the<br />

masters <strong>of</strong> the youth <strong>of</strong> paradise."363<br />

(e) It was narrated that Abdullah ibn Buraydah said: I heard Abu<br />

Hurayrah say: "The Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (g) was addressing us,<br />

and d-Hasan and al-Husayn came, wearing red shirts, walking<br />

and stumbling. The Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (g) came down from<br />

the minbar, picked them up and put them in front <strong>of</strong> him; then he<br />

said: 'Allah (B) and His Messenger speak the trnth: dYour
