'<strong>Ali</strong> ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Ttlib 135<br />

the Tibi'oon. His mother was SulSlfah bint Yazdagird,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> the last <strong>of</strong> the kings <strong>of</strong> Persia. He narrated<br />

mursalZs6 reports from his grandfather '<strong>Ali</strong> ihn Ahi Tilib.<br />

Al-'Ajli said: He was a trustworthy man <strong>of</strong> the Tibi'oon <strong>of</strong><br />

Madinah. He died in 94 AH, at the age <strong>of</strong> fifty-eight.287<br />

(vi) His nephew (the son <strong>of</strong> his sister) Ja'dah ibn Huhayrah ihn<br />

<strong>Abi</strong> Wahh ibn 'Amr ihn 'A'id ibn 'Imk ibn Makhzoom,<br />

and his mother Umm Hini' bint <strong>Abi</strong> T2ib. He was born at<br />

the time <strong>of</strong> the Prophet (&) and he was a Companion. He<br />

was governor <strong>of</strong> Khorasan and settled in Kufah. Al-'Ajli<br />

said: He was a trustworthy man <strong>of</strong> the Tibi'oon <strong>of</strong><br />

Madinah who narrated from '<strong>Ali</strong>.288<br />

(vii) His slave woman Umm Moosa. It is said that her name<br />

was Fikhitah or Habeebah. Al-Diiraquni said: Her hadith<br />

is sound. Al-'AjLi said: She was a trustworthy woman <strong>of</strong><br />

the Tibi'oon <strong>of</strong> ~ufab.'~~<br />

The most famous <strong>of</strong> those who narrated from '<strong>Ali</strong>(4)<br />

among<br />

the Tihi'oon were:<br />

(i) Abu al-Aswad ad-Du'ali al-Basri, the judge. His name was<br />

- Dh2im ibn 'Am ibn Sufyzn. It was also said that his name<br />

was 'Am ibn 'Uthm2n or 'Uthmk ibn 'Amr. He became<br />

Muslim at the time <strong>of</strong> the Prophet (g), and he fought<br />

alongside '<strong>Ali</strong> (&) in the Battle <strong>of</strong> the Camel. He was<br />

regarded as trustworthy by <strong>Ibn</strong> Ma'een, al-'Ajli and others.<br />

He died during the governorship <strong>of</strong> 'Ubaydullah ibn Ziyid<br />

in 69 AH.'^'<br />

(ii) Abu Bardah ibn Moosa al-Ash'ari the Islamic jurist. His<br />

name was al-Hirith, or it was said that it was 'Amir. He<br />

was regarded as trustworthy by <strong>Ibn</strong> Sa'd, al-'Ajli and <strong>Ibn</strong><br />

Hibbk. AlL'Ajli said: He was appointed judge <strong>of</strong> Kufah
