The Laphroaig® (Gaelic for “beautiful valley by the broad bay”)
whisky distillery was founded in 1815 and it is one of the most traditional
whisky brands. At the distillery on the Scottish island of Islay malted barley
is dried over peat fire and distilled after this process.
This lends Laphroaig® its exceptionally rich aroma and makes it one
of the richest single malts. The whisky is aged in bourbon casks made
of American oak for at least ten years. The island’s peat bog with its vast areas
of peat moss, the mild climate, high-quality barley, and the soft
water of Islay paired with the distillers’ know-how contribute to Laphroaig’s
unique taste. In 1994, Laphroaig was given the Royal Warrant and made
purveyor to the Welsh court – since then the royal coat of arms can be
found on every bottle.
