technique the vibrator forms a hole by compacting the soil to the required depth which is<br />

filled with graded stone <strong>and</strong> then compacted in lifts by the vibrator to form ‘stone columns’.<br />

This process has been extended whereby concrete is injected into the hole at the tip of the<br />

poker <strong>and</strong> vibrated as it is withdrawn to provide a form of ‘pile’ (or ‘vibro-concrete column’)<br />

capable of carrying light loading when taken down to a competent stratum.<br />
