The challenge of NTSC decoding is to separate luma<br />

and modulated chroma. A bandpass (notch) filter<br />

operates only in the horizontal domain. Figure 29.14<br />

indicates the spatial frequencies that are rejected by<br />

a chroma notch filter. Although chroma is rejected,<br />

a significant amount of luma is eliminated as well.<br />
