The main destinati<strong>on</strong>s in Western <strong>Europe</strong> are <strong>the</strong>oretically reachable by road from Rotterdam<br />
within 24 hours. Over 12.500 road vehicles leave <strong>the</strong> ports every day. The port motorway is<br />
c<strong>on</strong>nected to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Europe</strong>an motorway network.<br />

Rotterdam is linked with more than a thousand sea ports worldwide (Sou<strong>the</strong>rn and Nor<strong>the</strong>rn<br />
America, Africa, Sou<strong>the</strong>astern Asia, Australia). The real importance of <strong>the</strong> port as a joint for<br />
waterway transport is apparent from <strong>the</strong> fact, that 48 % of <strong>the</strong> total volume of transported goods (in<br />
t<strong>on</strong>s) to/from Rotterdam is realised by water.<br />
